I believe in the idea of "to-do lists" and thought it would be an appropriate step in the green direction to create a green life list, of sorts.
The list is a work in progress and will be expanded as I continually step outside my environmenal confort zone. The items are random and are in no particular order of importance or urgency.
- Install solar panels on our home.
- Visit all the U.S. National Parks (Check: Acadia, Smokey Mtns., Isle Royale, Shenandoah, Mammoth Cave, Channel Islands, Joshua Tree, Voyageurs, Wrangell St. Elias, Denali, Kenai Fjords, Glacier, Badlands)
Have a backyard compost bin/pile.
- Use a solar cooker to prepare a meal.
- Practice yoga regularly.
- Can our own produce from local harvests. (
tomatoes, pickles, corn, peaches)
Make jam from freshly picked berries.
- Install rain barrels in our yard.
- Go on a family vacation to Alaska.
- Gain a comprehensive understanding of our energy resources...sources, consumption and alternatives.
- Meet Al Gore
- Buy an alternative fuel vehicle.
- Plant a backyard native garden.
Tour a modern landfill.
Tour a wastewater treatment plant.
- Go fishing with my family and catch, clean and cook our meal.
- Join a local environmental advisory board.
- Air-dry ALL our household laundry for one week.
- Participate in and learn to cook the foods from a CSA (community supported agriculture).
Work in the environmental field.
- One Christmas season, give all gifts purchased from resale shops, antique stores or garage sales.
Write and publish a children's environmental book.
Write an article for Sierra Magazine.
Curate a hands-on environmental education center.
