Assemblies and Presentations

Bringing Environmental Education to You!

ECOSiZE Me school assemblies and presentations are designed to infuse environmental education into the minds of Michigan children! Both of our educators have environmental degrees and professional experience across a variety of environmental disciplines. Best of all they are moms who are actively involved in their children's schools.
Throughout the assemblies and/or classroom presentations, students are challenged to use critical thinking while learning about our natural environment. The programs incorporate MS PowerPoint, engaging props and tactile samples so that the programs are interactive and visually stimulating all while encouraging practical application of the concepts for long-term retention. Program content is modified for various grade levels.
Start a worm compost bin in your classroom, learn about the water cycle or explore how to be green through the concepts of reduce, reuse, recycle, compost and conserve!
The content of the ECOSiZE Me school assemblies and presentations:
  • Meets Michigan Department of Education Science Grade Level Content Expectations (Download Ecosize Me MDE GLCEs)
  • Aligns with the Michigan Green School Program criteria (get a MI Green School Point for hosting one of our programs)
  • Is relevant for Oakland, Macomb & Wayne Counties in SE Michigan
  • No Child Left Inside Coalition: What is Environmental Education? and Why is EE Important?
ECOSiZE Me school assemblies and presentations are designed to compliment any school or PTA cultural arts program. The classroom presentations enhance science curriculum by providing a hands-on approach to our environment. Our program topics are dynamic and engaging for adult audiences as well. Each teacher is provided with a program outline, a student activity/worksheet and a list of applicable MDE GLCEs.

  • Students (and teachers) will learn that there is alot more to the garbage that we create.
  • Our educators will sort one day's worth of cafeteria garbage into categories and use these as the basis of the program that covers natural resources, waste dipsosal and the concepts of reduce, reuse and recycle.
  • This is an eye-opening, entertaining and effective educational program.
  • Upper Elementary/Middle School: Students may also learn how to assess the water footprint and carbon footprint of their lunches. Students leave the assembly with their "footprint" and an action plan for reducing it. (No additional charge).
  • "Wipe Away the Waste" -- this is an add-on activity to the Garbage Can Investigation for an additional fee. "Wipe Away the Waste" provides an introduction for creating a waste-free lunch. Each student leaves with a reusable fabric napkin that becomes the "canvas" for their commitment to reducing lunch-time waste. Students customize their napkins by decorating them with fabric makers or paints. This is done in the classroom or at home.

Being Green: It's All About Me

  • This program is appropriate for upper elementary, middle and high school
  • Students learn that although they cannot vote via ballot, they certainly vote using dollars. The way in which we spend our money can speak louder than words, especially to companies competing for market share, sales and profits.
  • Using our "shopping carts", students will learn how to spend money in a way that is environmentally-friendly, while being conscious of both our water footprint and carbon footprint.
  • It's all about the students...from clothes and food, to music, videos and games. We'll go beyond recycling and learn how the things we do, buy and say impact our environment.
  • Students may realize that many of the choices they make are already environmentally-friendly and leave with an action plan of how to be stewards of our environment and young green leaders.

Look into a Landfill

There is more to a landfill then meets the eye and there is a method to the madness of throwing away our trash. Look Into a Landfill is a program in which young people enter the world of a landfill to discover the differences, consequences, and benefits of the garbage we create. We study garbage: past, present and future through a mini archeological dig, trash sort and garbage graveyard as well as the science behind a modern landfill. The program provides students with images, textures, sounds and schematics of how a landfill is constructed and operates. The program allowa for a comparative look into the methods of “trashing” and provide a strong visual for the supportive student/facilitator program that follows.
  • This program is appropriate for grades 3 and up and is modified for the grade level.
  • Cost for this program is $125.00 per grade level.
